Sicevacka gorge


Sicevacka (Sićevačka) gorge offers good conditions for paragliding and alpinism.This is the place where European championship in paragliding took place in 2008. On the river Nisava there is still an active power plant, which was built at the beginning of the XX century. Along this gorge, one can visit a monastery of Holy Mother, built in 1644 and restored in 1875 after the Turks had demolished it. There is also a monastery of Saint Petka in a village- Ostrovica. In a village Sicevo (Sićevo), famous for its area full of vineyards and vine, the oldest colony of fine arts on the Balkans is held every summer. Its founder in 1905 was Nadezda Petrovic, the most famous Serbian painter. It is 14 km from Nis and it is 17 km long. In Sicevacka gorge there are one hotel and some 20 restaurants. It is on the road Belgrade – Nis - Sophia.
