Rajkova cave

Rajkova cave (Rajkova pećina) is one the most beautiful in Serbia when it comes to cave jewelry. One thing that distinguishes it especially is a very loud stream, which flows along 1129 metres of the river horizon of 2303 metres in total. Jovan Cvijic, the greatest Serbian geographer, first searched the river horizon in 1894, which looks like a scene from an adventure film.

It got its name by a haiduk Rajko. According to the legend, a haiduk Rajko made drunk travelers and robbed them while the treasure was hidden in the cave. After he had been hanged, the cave became the target of numerous hunters searching for the hidden treasure. The haiduk had 4 fingers on one hand, and on the grave of a priest Martin in Bulgaria, with whom he had collaborated, was allegedly written down that a hand with 4 fingers was a sign where the treasure had been buried.

That Rajko really existed, shows the fact that this whole area, near the cave, has been called Raykovo. The only written proof, which can be connected with him, is a document in which a certain family says: " We must continue on this very road since they killed our Rayko".

It is situated 3 km from the centre of Majdanpek.
