Special nature reserve "Carska Bara"


Special nature reserve "Carska Bara" is placed between 2 rivers (Begej and Tisa) and 3 cities: Belgrade, Novi Sad and Zrenjanin. It is a kingdom of birds and oasis of peace and untouched nature. Mosaic character of Reservation (rivers, puddles, swamps, meadows, pastures and forests) is an ideal area for numerous bird species to live at to visit on their migratory flights. The Reserve welcomes bird watchers year-round to observe and photograph the numerous birds that call this marshland home.


More than 250 different bird species are registered on this unique place situated on 1700 ha. The wetland mostly attracts water habitat birds in large colonies (Herons, Storks, Grebes, Pelicans, Swans and many other), many passerines and predators like Buzzards, Whitey-tailed Eagle, Hawks, Marsh Harriers, Falkons and Ospreys but also a great number of colorful Bee-eaters, Woodpeckers, Kingfishers, Partidges and Pheasants. The peculiarity of this place is that every one of the eight European heron species nests here.



Because of all these natural values, and mainly as the significant habitat of swamp birds, this reservation is acclaimed Ramsar, IPA and IBA region and it is under UNESCO protection.


The sounds of silence and the song of nature are being heard here. Reserve offers scheduled tours with an experienced guide (3, 5, or 8-day tours) or Reserve can arrange a private tour for you to look for all forms of plants and wildlife.
